Co-creation for meaningful impact

Impact-driven organisations plan their activities by co-creating.

Co-creation is a collaborative approach where an organisation brings together diverse individuals (including internal staff, external partners, final end-users) to collectively design, develop or improve a project or a service.

The different interviews carried out within the Data Conversations project revealed diverse opinions about who should be involved in the co-creation process. Let’s sum up you should not forget:
  1. Organisational perspectives: start by including different members of your organisation in project planning. Their diverse internal perspectives (and backgrounds) are crucial for aligning goals and activities.
  2. Stakeholder voices: elevate your co-creation by involving different levels of stakeholders. This expands beyond your internal team to include partners, beneficiaries, and other relevant groups, leading to a broader understanding of needs and potential impact.
  3. Community-led solutions: for truly transformative impact, actively seek to co-create with groups often excluded from such processes. This includes:
    • Children
    • People with disabilities
    • Family members of individuals with different illnesses
    • Other marginalised or underserved communities

Experiences show that services and activities co-created with diverse stakeholders have better uptake, are more relevant, and possess a stronger potential to make meaningful change.

Furthermore, designing impact measures together with stakeholders is an ideal way to ensure that impact is documented in a way that truly reflects the experiences of those affected. Their unique insights are invaluable in understanding how impact should be observed and measured.
